生活中，我们偶尔会碰到停水、停电的突发状况，造成很多不便。今天，带大家学习一下相关英文表达。

“停水”的英文不是“stop water”

一看到“停”，很多同学最先想到的词是“stop”，可能会直译为“stop water”，但这并不是一个完整的句子，所以这个表达其实是不对的。

在口语中，关于“停水”，这些说法都很地道：

The water got cut off.

The water was shut off.

还有更简短的表达：The water is off.

如果是水用完了，可以说：

We're out of water.

“停水”的书面正式用语：

water outage

outage，主要用作名词，译为“停止供应期，断供期”，water outage也就是断水期。

那“停电”英文怎么说呢？

说到“电”，我们可能会想到“electricity”，如果要用“electricity”表示“停电”，可以这样说：

The electricity had been cut off.

或者：The electricity supply is stopped.

但这样表达有点繁琐，同“停水”一样，“停电”更简短的说法为：

The electricity is off.

除了“electricity”，关于“停电”，英文中更常使用的词其实是“power”：

power cut：多指人为因素的停电，主动切断电源供应；

power failure：一般指因天气、雷电或设备故障等造成的非人为因素停电；

如果是突然停电，不知什么原因造成，可直接表达为：power outage.

The food in the freezer had thawed during a power cut.

冰箱里的食物在停电期间化开了。

A power failure created an emergency in traffic and transportation.

停电使交通运输陷入紧急状况。

Despite the power outage, the hospital continued to function normally.

尽管供电中断，医院继续照常运作。

或者还可以用blackout表示：

power/electricity blackout

There was an electricity black-out in a large area in the north of the country.

该国北部大片地区断电。

The power blackout is often caused by the outages of transmission corridor or the structure of power system.

系统输电走廊或电网结构遭到严重破坏时常导致大停电事故发生。

那停电之后又来电了，该怎么说呢？

The power is back on. 表示有电了

electricity，electric，electrical，electronic傻傻分不清？

electricity：名词，除了表示“电；电能”之外，还有“强烈的感觉；激动”的意思。

This type of heater uses a lot of electricity.

这种加热器耗电量很大。

electric：既可作形容词，也可作名词。基本意思是“电的，用电的，带电的”，指任何电动的或发电的装置，被修饰的物体本身可带电。引申可表示“使人震惊的；令人激动的”。

The factory is surrounded by electric fencing.

工厂有电网围着。

The atmosphere was electric.

气氛很热烈。

作名词时，表示“供电”：

The electric will be off tomorrow.

明天停电。

electrical：形容词，表示“电的，与电有关的”，多指与电有关的事物或电的知识。

This degree programme is fully accredited by the Institution of Electrical Engineers.

这门学位课程经电气工程师学院鉴定完全合格

Electric和electrical区别：

Electric is usually used to describe something that uses or produces electricity. You use electrical with more general nouns such as equipment and wiring and things that are concerned with electricity.

electric通常指使用或产生电力的。electrical与更概括的名词如equipment（电器设备）和wiring（供电线路），以及与电有关的事物搭配：an electrical fault （电路故障）

现在两者的区别有时不太明显：

an electric/electrical company 电力公司

an electric/electrical current 电流

an electric/electrical shock触电

electronic：形容词，表示“电子的；电子设备的”
